What is the Halo Laser?

The Halo™ Laser is the world’s first and only Hybrid Fractional Laser. This revolutionary laser enables Dr. Bickerton to rejuvenate your skin with innovative technology that revitalizes the tissue beneath your skin and renews the surface epidermis, giving your skin improved tone and texture as well as decreased discoloration, improvement in fine lines and smaller pores without surgery and minimal downtime. Only a topical anesthetic is needed and typically you can return to wearing make-up within 24 hours.

How does the Halo Laser work?

The Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser uses two, fully customizable, wavelengths simultaneously to maximize results and reduce downtime. This also allows Dr. Bickerton to adjust how aggressive the treatment is based on your goals.

The Halo hybrid technology allows for renewal of the skin surface with one wavelength as well revitalizing the underlying tissue with a different wavelength. As a result, the skin surface sheds leaving new, healthier, more radiant skin and tissues below the skin surface respond to the treatment by increasing the production of natural substances, such as collagen, which give the skin its elasticity and structural support.

The Halo™ Laser isn’t as harsh as some forms of fractional laser resurfacing due to the combination of its Intelligent Energy Delivery with Dynamic Thermal Optimization. This combination allows for precise, even, safe treatments. Harsher treatments also require lengthy recovery periods, whereas Halo Laser treatments need minimal downtime and are virtually pain-free.

What does the Halo Laser treat?

The Halo Laser is effective against a range of common skin concerns and is indicated for the following issues:

  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Skin discolorations (i.e. freckles, melasma)
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Signs of aging
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Scarring
  • Sunspots/dyschromia

The Halo Laser treatment can improve the appearance of aging and minimize the effects of long-term sun exposure. Halo can be used on all skin types and on other areas of the body beyond the face. Popular non-facial treatment areas include the neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs.

What happens during a Halo Laser treatment session?

Once you arrive for your Halo™ laser treatment, Dr. Bickerton applies a topical anesthetic to the treatment area for 30-60 minutes before beginning your treatment to ensure minimal discomfort throughout the procedure.

At the beginning of the treatment motion tracking technology reads your face and stores the information so that when Dr. Bickerton rolls the handpiece over your skin, the system signals the right time to stop based on your personalized treatment. This ensures that every area gets the precise amount of treatment to give you consistent, even results.

Once the procedure begins you may feel warmth and prickling sensations during the treatment, but the Halo™ laser has built-in, integrated cooling technology to keep your skin at a comfortable temperature. After your treatment, you can resume your normal activities but must keep skin protected for at least the first 24 hours.

How soon will I see results from Halo Laser treatment?

You should start to see a difference after two to five days. On the third or fourth day, your old top layer of skin peels away to reveal the new skin underneath. If you have treatment for pigmented lesions, you should see improvement in the first two to three weeks.

Patients typically report seeing the greatest improvement in the first 2-3 weeks but, below the surface, dermal regeneration is taking place, so you continue to see improvements in your complexion for several months after treatment.

How many Halo treatments are needed?

It is recommended that you have one or two intense treatments for the full rejuvenating effect or a series of lighter treatments over a longer period. Doing less intense treatments over a longer period of time will lead to less downtime due to not being as aggressive. Comparable results are seen with both treatment plans. Dr. Bickerton will discuss this with you in more detail to ensure your desired results are achieved in a way that works with your lifestyle.
